One button is for the gas and one is for the brake. The unlockable karts and characters keep you interested. However if you've never played any other version of Mario Kart before- this really won't affect you.The Wii Wheel-I love the wii wheel because, again, you don't have to push buttons. Easy to remember.
For example you need to press random combinations of buttons to pull out a weapon or jump into the air. There are also a lot of tracks to chose from that vary in difficulty level. People have been able to cheat on this and score ridiculous times like 1 minute for all 3 laps of a track. Often times when you play against the AI characters you seem to get hit with a lot of bad stuff (like the blue shell of death) when you are in first place. Playing seemed to take a lot of effort and practice.
No one really likes change and apparently the wii version changes a few key playing elements (such as being able to play a battle solo and playing grand prix in multi player mode). It is especially fun in the multiplayer mode and online with players from around the world. It all seemed so confusing to me. Why I bought Wii-I used to play NES when I was a kid and I always enjoyed it so much.
Veteran players seem to dislike the wheel because you do need practice. I like unlocking new stuff and filling up my license with trophies. I heard that nintendo is supposed to be working on deleting these fake records, but for now they are still there.People also tend to complain about the error items- and for the record what they are saying is true. It is very different from the original mario kart and veteran players have no advantage over newbies. Why I like the game-I LOVE playing this game. I've had it for a few months now and I still love it.
But, as newer consoles began to evolve I found myself intimidated by the new games. There were SO MANY BUTTONS on the controllers for playstation and game cube. It kind of defeats the purpose of the ranking because those times are not real. However there are lots of ways to evade the game's error items and keep yourself in first. All in all I personally think the game is great. It is definitely easy to learn and doesn't get old too quickly because there are several modes of play (grand prix, ghost racing, battles, online).
The motion sensing is pretty sensitive, so if you fling your arms all over the place you will drive off the edge of the road. It's very entertaining for groups of people to play and it is even fun to watch others play. The game ranks you on your driving and as of now I have yet to reach the *** level because the computer is always knocking me out. It definitely does take some practice though.
It really does seem like you get punished for being in first. It seemed like there was so much to remember. This way you can start off with easier tracks and move up to more difficult ones as you improve.Other things people complain about-My chief complaint is the online ghost ranking (which is pretty much seeing how fast you can finish a certain track without any other players or error items). I have had numerous people come over my house to play and after about 15-30 minutes they have a pretty good handle on the steering.
So I picked Wii because it had the least amount of buttons- and plus I think the whole motion sensor idea is pretty cool. Why people dislike the game-As for Mario Kart for Wii, I have read a few complaints regarding the game play and the controls, however I have noticed that a lot of these complaints come from people who loved the original Mario Kart Double Dash. I would recommend buying wheels for each remote you own because I think it is by far the easiest way to play, particulary if you are new.
Would have been nice to have the option to export non-online save files to an sd card so that I could transfer to ny friends wii and not have to beat courses again. This game was frustrating at first, takes a little while to get use to the wheel, but once you get the hang of it it is really nice. I do not like that the save file can not be transfered to another counsel without some creative bypassing, even then you cant use it to play online.

Then it becomes a frustrating uphill battle against luck and Nintendo's idea that no one should really be better than anyone else. You have to get at least one "good" item(star, bullet, giant) during most online races to have a chance. Even worse than that, races are usually so close that once you're hit by something, everyone else piles into you and next thing you know you've gone from first to near last in an instant. This game at first glance seems like a lot of fun. And God forbid you miss a cube entirely.2 - The really sad thing about this game is the notion that it must "punish" you for being ahead of everyone else.
After playing countless hours of this for a couple months, I can only conclude this is one of the worst games I've ever played. It's not because of graphics. If someone is, we have to knock him down to make it fair.I worked hard to get over 7000, and I'm proud of that, but it quit being fun a long time ago. And for the first few weeks, it is. It's not because of controls.
It's no coincidence that 9 out of 10 races in which I am in first place for a length of time, I get hit with the dreaded blue shell. I'm tired of battling luck with skill, when luck wins out almost every time. It's because the game stops being fun when you realize two things:1 - Winning is almost pure luck. I've been in many races where it takes much more, because I've been bombarded constantly by people with stars and bullets.
Also, this game can get very difficult and frustrating at times, but not so much that it makes the game less fun. The only thing I didn't like about Mario Kart Wii was that I had extreme difficulty with the Wii Wheel, and ended up using the nunchuck with the Wiimote (which works extremely well for me). Nintendo has always focused on fun, family-friendly gameplay and revolutionary controls and gameplay, and this game excells in all of these categories. But be prepared to get hit by up to five blue (spiked) shells in one race.Overall, great fun, and a fun game to play with other people (although we usually end up cursing like sailors as we get knocked of cliffs and hit by shells - both by the CPU and each other). The great thing about the ghosts is that the computer will automatically pick for you "rival ghosts" which are people who have just a few seconds better than you on time. This game is an absolute blast.
Now, the graphics aren't anything like that of a PS3 or a XBOX 360, but you bought a Wii - what do you expect. But I don't know how this is for other people: it could be just me. I own the Nintendo DS version of this game, and I loved it, but I love the Wii version even more - who can say no to more characters, more karts, and more tracks. You can also view your rankings on time trials up against people from all over the world on an easy to read scatterplot graph. If you own a Wii and want a good, fun multiplayer game, you need to buy this. The new tracks are brilliant, with colorful visuals and interesting interactions.
The Wi-Fi support is much better than that of the DS: you can now download and race ghosts from around the world on time-trials and compete in tournaments that resemble the challenge-mode in the DS version.
